This clip shows the very early days of the creation of Gribblehirst Hub, upstairs at the old Edendale Bowling Club in Gribblehirst Park, Sandringham. Shot and edited by Steve King, with contributions from Denise, it shows founding members - most of whom live locally but had never met before becoming involved in the Hub - developing priorities and self-organising to make these happen. Key early activities have been to make a table together and to develop and install a swipe card security system for member access. This entry system will be copyleft so other makerspaces and hubs can also benefit from the combined efforts. Many creative things are already going on and so too is lots of fun and food!
This short film produced by Auckland Council and Rooftops Media highlights the work of residents in Waitakere and talks about the many amazing things that come out of local visions being acted on by local people. Resident-led community gardens, stream restoration, and play days for pre-schoolers in parks are some of the initiatives that are talked about. The research on neighbourhood-led development is captured throughout the video with sound-bites from Denise. Locally-led change is a long term game. Momentum is assisted by getting some quick runs on the board. Others will join you when they see a difference is being made, and when they feel they have something to add. |
